Our show at Cole's was a great success.

We're very sorry if you were turned away because of the whole "capacity" thing, but thank you so much for showing up!

The Allgorithms were insanely good and if you were able to stay late enough for Hydroarchos, you can attest to the diverse line-up.

The Sometimes Family's latest album is still in the long, arduous mixing stages, but it will be released someday.

Someday soon.

Your delicious smile makes us salivate.

It's a new year and the Sometimes Family has new things in store for you.

Big show at Abbey Pub the Friday, January 8th. We're going to have a small piece in the Tribune that day announcing the show, so check the "On the Town" section.

We're trying to put some money together to make a cd this winter, so you can expect one next spring or summer!

Hope to see you soon!

Hey there,

We're making an album this winter!

Yep, hopefully by the spring, but at the lates this summer, you can expect to hear the delightful sounds of the Sometimes Family in your own living room.

Also note we have a huge show at Abbey Pub coming up. If any of you have been to Abbey Pub, you know how big it is. So to look good, we need to have everyone we've ever met come out to this show. Please come!

Well, the news for July is the Sometimes Family has a new home!

That's right. Julius, Mollie, Steve, and I (Rebecca) are now roommates and we occupy a duplex in beautiful Old Irving Park.

We would love to see you sometime. You can look forward to house parties, house shows, and a better-rehearsed Sometimes Family.

Lastly, who ever can cross-stitch us a "God Bless The Sometimes Family" plaque gets a free CD!

Hey friends,

We have a new drummer! Yes, many of you are not aware, but in the thick of gig season with a full summer line-up we were forced to find a new drummer. James DeFrain is focusing more and more on jazz and now leads his own group. We wish him all the best.

But haste needed to be made in the search, because in less than three weeks we have a 90-minute set to play at Villa Park Summerfest.

We put out the various ads and auditioned a few guys who were all great drummers but one in particular we found to be the best fit, Phil M. Yes, we're not sure his last name.

He has just the feel we've been looking for and he keeps time like a metronome. Well....we'll have to see about that. But he's quite good.

Stay tuned. We have a show on June 12 at Phyllis'. Hope to see you there, everybody.

Hi everyone--

I wonder if anyone reads this. If you do, please drop me a line via the contact form on this site. Say hello. We'd love to hear from you.

Monday, we had a great show at Martyrs. We had an amazing crowd (all the more so because it was Monday), and The Sometimes Family had a wonderful time playing on stage. This was possibly the tallest stage we had ever played on.

Thank you to everyone who came out. You truly made it an incredible show. Thanks also to Singing in the Abbey for getting us the show (and are amazing performers; check them out on myspace) and Roman Zabicki who recorded it for us.

The next couple weeks, The Sometimes Family will be back in the studio, this time that of Daniel Escauriza, recording a demo. Those of you who bought our debut CD and have been following our musical journey have probably noticed how we've drifted from a rock band to a soul band. With festival season approaching in the next few months, it's time to put something out there that represents our festivalness.

Keep your eyes peeled for upcoming shows, especially festivals. Say a little prayer for us, or at least cross your fingers, that we get into some of these fests and are able to take this thing to the next level.

Exciting news...

Finally, after months and maybe years of promises, we are releasing our first album. The search for a venue was a tough one, since we haven't quite amassed a huge following as of yet. After beseeching the clubs that we thought would certainly let us in their doors, what with the guarantees we were making and all, and getting those doors slammed in our faces, I finally looked to my lovely Logan Square neighborhood and chose a bar that I enjoy; one with a huge beer selection and where I have seen my friends play wonderful shows.

This bar is none other than Quenchers Saloon.

The date is set for October 24. This show is not gonna be like the ones you have seen us play, because this album began production before we headed into the Soul direction we currently pursue. This is a self-titled Rock album, and the five or six of you out there who followed Bebelo will appreciate The Sometimes Family's angle on the old Bebelo classics.

One last thing: a little bird told me that if people link to our page our Google ranking goes up. By all means, do so, people. You don't need our permission.

And now a word from Steve...

Oh...hello, welcome to our website. If you care about music like we do, you probably know what kind of music you like. However, if you don't know what you like, here are some tips:

1) Listen to a wide variety of music.

For example, you could turn on the radio, take endless rides in elevators, repeatedly call your own cell phone, or come to your local The Sometimes Family performance. Anywhere you can find music is somewhere you can improve your knowledge of what kind of music you enjoy.

2) Ask your friends and loved ones to suggest music they like.

Quite possibly, you know people. Quite possibly, these people you know like things. Quite possibly, the things these people you know like include music. If so, perhaps they can suggest music you could listen to and then you could begin to form your own opinions of what kind of music you like.

3) When not listening to music, be sure to rest your ears.

You want to be able to take advantage of every opportunity to listen to music. This will put a lot of strain on your ears. After listening to music, be sure to halt all listening activities for at least 3 hours. You could invest in cotton balls or in very thick walls. Whatever your technique, if you want to enjoy listening to music for your whole lifetime, proper ear care is essential - and FUN!!

Now you're on your way to learning what types of music you would like to listen to. May we suggest starting your musical adventures with the contemporary stylings of The Sometimes Family. The sooner you learn what you like, the sooner you can begin to live a full, rewarding life filled with music. Have fun exploring the world of music that is all around you.

Next time, we will discuss the importance of knowing what you don't like to listen to. Until then, enjoy your new found love of listening to and rating music.

Things are going really great for The Sometimes Family. The record is more than half done, and we just received our "THE SOMETIMES FAMILY" stickers in the mail! Now we can finally call ourselves a REAL BAND!

Meanwhile, songs are being written and tested out on audiences all across the city. Would you like to participate in a future study? Please see our "SHOWS" page and find a show playing near you. Simply attend one and pat us on the back when we're done. Be sure to pick up a sticker and/or a button on your way out the door.

Seriously folks, it's that simple.

It's been a while, right? Well, here's what's going on.

First off, Steve and I are now joined by awesome flautist and tamborine shaker Mollie Hayward.

We three now call ourselves the Sometimes Family. How does that sound? Does it suit us? Well, if you think so or if you don't, please send us a line. We would love to hear from you.

In case you missed the memo, I'm back! It was a wonderful, most adventurous trip, from start to finish. For anyone who didn't get on the fanmail list before I left, and therefore didn't get Emmy's e-mail, you can read my travel blog here: blog.rebeccagurga.com

Read it backwards, or else read it forward and find out what happened backwards. That makes sense, right?

Anyway, I'm on purevolume now. So check it out: purevolume.com/rebeccasometimes

Thanks for listening.

Hi all,

So, I'm going solo. Yippee! January will bring the recording of my first record. This is very exciting for me. Stay tuned for updates on that. February and March I will be in California. It was supposed to be a tour, but as I was unable to book any shows, I will try my luck on the open mic circuit in San Diego and San Francisco.

Note that the music page has been updated with many songs. Enjoy!

10/6/06:

Sadness.

Bebelo is calling it quits.

So don't miss our last two shows: Red Line Tap tonight, and House of Blues on the 19th. Don't miss your last opportunities to experience this musical phenomenon. Buy a t-shirt, because we're broke. E-mail us and show us some love. We certainly love you.

+ + + + +

9/3/06:

This just in: Here's an incentive to come out to Underground Lounge to see Bebelo on September 9th. Bring 4 friends and you will receive a free Bebelo t-shirt (a $12 value!).

This is an cool club and a must-see show! So, come out, show your love, and be happy!

+ + + + +

7/20/06:

Bebelo will soon come out with its own zine. See if you can find one at your favorite small bookstores!

+ + + + +

7/13/06:

Hello friends of Bebelo! Good news. The t-shirts are being made, but best of all, we're planning our first record. Wish us luck as we take this next step.

Thanks for all your support, and Godspeace!

+ + + + +

7/12/06:

We didn't make it to Lollapalooza, sadly, but Bebelo would like to thank everyone who voted to get us there. Rebecca Sometimes has a couple solo shows coming up, and Bebelo is playing some soon, too, so keep your pants on and come out to see us!

Please keep checking our website, and if you want to find out about upcoming shows, please visit the "contact" page and add your e-mail address. We will update you early and often!

Cheers!
